The Rockin' Johnny Band is a Chicago based band that plays music rooted in the traditional Chicago blues of the 50's and 60's. They are Delmark recording artists with three CD's out: "Straight Out of Chicago", "Man's Temptation", and their latest, "More Real Folk Blues", which was recorded live in Chicago at B.L.U.E.S. On Halsted. A popular local band, they also tour in Europe, Canada and the Midwest and have recently played the 2001 San Francisco Blues Festival. Their sound is driven by Rockin' Johnny's incisive lead guitar work on his beloved, battered solid body Rickenbacker, an unusual instrument for blues! The band includes ex-Muddy Waters rhythm guitarist Rick Kreher, drummer Kenny Smith (the son of long time Muddy drummer Willie Smith), and bassist Sho Komiya. Living Blues magazine has described the band's playing as "top-notch ensemble work, playing with power and drive and a keen sense of dynamics."
