The Blues Map
Where the Blues Map Came From
In 1995, I set up an early website for blues fans, and over time I started adding links to bands, radio shows and blues festivals that were also setting up websites. I arranged these regionally, so that someone interested in knowing what was going on, blueswise, in their city or in a place they'd be visiting could find the blues anywhere they went.
Over the next five years, I got more than five hundred links from unsigned bands, regional blues societies and festivals, little record labels, and all sorts of interesting blues stuff. Eventually it got to be too much work to maintain the hand-edited HTML version of the Blues Map, and I converted it to this self-service facility so that those bands, clubs, etc. could add themselves to the Map.
What the Blues Map Is
The Blues Map is a listing of local, regional or otherwise-hard-to-locate or little-known blues resources on the net. It is a page of
web
resources, such as band websites, sites for record labels that specialize in blues (either new recordings or reissues), websites for blues societies or clubs, websites for blues festivals or benefit concerts, websites for blues radio shows or webcasts, or other blues-focused, web-based resources.
What the Blues Map Isn't
It's not a public site. I own it, I run it, I'm the final judge of what does and does not belong here. It's not a listing of non-web resources or resources that have only an email address. Sorry, guys, but I don't accept email-only contacts at all. This is 2001, you can set up free or cheap websites pretty easily. It's not a resource for listing big-name acts or big commercial record labels. Please don't post links to nationally-known acts like Robert Cray, Roomful of Blues, etc. People can find that stuff on the net already.
It's not some email-marketing thing, either. I collect your email address so that I can contact you if there's ever a problem with your listing, but your identifying information is never shown on the website and I will never provide your information to any outside party for any purpose, ever. No spam, no selling or renting addresses, nothing. Since the email address doesn't appear on the web, spam-trollers can't harvest it.
Important: it is also not your band's only website. It is intended to be a link to
your existing website.
If you don't have one yet, go get one. I'll wait.
