PermaLink eMachines KB-0108 driver here06/27/2007 11:57 PM
In case anyone needs it, here's a driver for the eMachines multimedia keyboard. If your keyboard has KB-0108 on it (the keyboard is a Chicony from a few years ago) and you've been to DriverGuide.com and been annoyed at having to view about a dozen ads to download the damn driver, here. Just download it and use it. run the EXE, it'll install itself and then ask to restart the machine. Once you do that, the keys will then do the following:

Cut/Copy/Paste may or may not work.
Volume and mute will work.
Sleep works.
Calculator works.
Internet will load the system default browser.
Email will load your default mail client.
Search loads the Windows system search, not Google or anything useful.
Backward/Forward should work.
Favorite probably won't work unless you use MSIE.

Be advised that this driver will NOT permit you to reprogram the keys. Poop on that.

Blabber :v

Works great, much appreciated!

Only thing is that the text that shows up when you press a button (to let you know what you pressed) overlaps with the text of other buttons you press afterwards.

No biggie, just glad to have my buttons back :)

Win7 64-bit.

After re-loading the OS, I've been trying for two months to get my Cut, Copy and Paste keys to work again. Many, many thanks for putting me out of my misery!

Just revived one of these that I found in a closet, it's going to be the backup in case my G84-4100 or Model M go out of commission somehow.

Good to know that I can get *some* use out of these media keys. :p

But seven years old and types better than a year-old Logitech... Chicony sure knew how to make keyboards. Here's a look at the insides prior to the cleaning process if anyone is interested:

Wow, thanks! I just wish I'd found this sooner. I've been looking for a fix to my cut-copy-paste buttons for over a year. This was an easy fix. THANK YOU!

I just found this great site by way of Google. Too bad the Search button can't be re-programmed.

Every special key works in XP, even Favorites. I will be trying it out in Vista and Windows 7 (I have multi-boot on my computer). Thanks very much. Where in heck did you find this driver file. It doesn't seem to exist anywhere else.

I just installed the drivers and it did not fix the cut, copy and paste keyboard keys. I will keep looking as they are the most useful keys. I also want to turn the sleep button on as nothing screams screw you then shutting your computer down in the middle of compiling an application.

to cut, copy and paste, just use ctrl X, ctrl C, and ctrl V, respectively. Not exactly the fix you're looking for, but your hands don't have to leave the keyboard.

Well guys, I have one for you. I have a KU-0108, but mine also has video keys in the middle. Yep all of the keys in the middle have letters and video processing symbles on them and are colored according to symbles. I have tried a lot of different drivers and I can't find one that allows me to use the only three keys I want and those are the COPY, PASTE, and CUT which don't work. When I bought this keyboard second hand, I didn't ask what the colored keys were for so when I got it, I just assumed they were for something I didn't need, but I don't know if this keyboard's driver would be different because of those keys than a regular emachine KU-0108 since I can't find my keyboard anywhere on the net that looks like mine. On the back I noticed it says Canadian. Don't know if that makes any difference either. I did try the driver above but it didn't work either for the three keys I want. Anyone have any ideas at all?

As posted above, the keyboard is actually a Chicony. It is model number KUS0108:

{ Link }

But .. I did not see a driver for the KUS0108 on their "downloads" page. Maybe they had/have some sort of OEM agreement, or maybe they just don't want to get requests for doing the support that the OEM should provide, or something else.

FWIW.

Much obliged to you, kind soul!

Those weasels at DriverGuide.com should go rot for the wretched shell game they play. What a pack of...

Never mind. This works JUST fine, fixed a 'zhotkey' error message and installed on Vista in a heartbeat!

Thanks again!
