Let's reassemble Ma Bell! Yeah! Hy-yeah!!!03/06/2006 02:07 AM
Beavis and Butt-head would like this deal
I worked for AT&T -- the old AT&T -- back in 1986, roughly
about the time that the Justice Department broke AT&T apart into seven
Regional Bell Operating Companies (RBOCs).
Well, 20 years later, the actual company I worked for -- American Telephone
And Telegraph -- a stupid name, since Western Union hadled almost all domestic
telegraph services, though they abandoned "telegraph" about
five weeks ago -- has reassembled nearly all the significant services of
the old Bell System. Minus Bell Labs, their old and extremely influential
R&D arm, later Lucent Technologies. Minus the regulations that
kept the old Bell System in check...
But there they are. Making to same fucking excuses.. "we're
bigger, and that will mean we can compete better and prices will be lower."
My white ass.
I had ISDN for four years. 1996-2000.
It never got any cheaper. My local phone service has never gotten
any cheaper. My wireless has gotten cheaper solely as a result of
my abandoning AT&T Wireless and going to T-Mobile.
Fuck you, Bell Atlantic (now Verizon).
Who the hell can really believe that handing over control of 140,000,000
home communication accounts and 10,000,000 broadband connections to a company
made up of SBC, AT&T, Cingular and the old Southern Bell, in markets
where alternative broadband and home voice carried constitute about 3%
of the "alternative" market, can be a good thing?
