Basically, it's that rather than getting people to focus on the real causes of "terrorism," we're being trained like hamsters to distrust and attack anything that's the least bit out of the ordinary, so matter how stupid a sensible person would think such an approach might be. The better-safe-than-sorry approach might be better be termed "better stupid than smart."
Among the comments is one by the inestimable Nate Freeman, of Notes911 fame. I find that a little ironic.
